Work Permits

Each year, Canadian employers hire temporary foreign residents from countries around the world to fill critical short-term job vacancies in positions essential to our economy and its primary industries.

Temporary foreign workers have the opportunity to gain valuable Canadian work experience that can help them move to permanent residency at a future date.

work permit

You will need a work permit if you want to work in Canada temporarily. In some cases an individual can acquire a work permit even if they do not have a job offer. These work permits are called “open” work permits. If you cannot get an open work permit, you will need a job offer from an employer.

visitor visa

In addition to a work permit,  a visitor visa may be needed in order to enter Canada.

If you are working temporarily in B.C., your spouse or common-law partner, and your dependents can, if you so choose, apply to come with you.

What are my rights as a worker in B.C.?

Temporary foreign residents living and working in B.C. have many of the same rights as British Columbians.
